The Office of Child & Youth Protection (“OCYP”) at the Chancery oversees diocesan compliance with the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children & Young People and supports parishes in their implementation of diocesan safe environment policies and procedures. As Bishop Konderla said in his 2018 promulgation letter of the Policies & Procedures for the Protection of Children & Young People (Normas y Procedimientos para la Protección de Niños y Jóvenes) for the Diocese of Tulsa, “Our children, youth, and vulnerable adults are treasures to the Church, and as such the Diocese of Tulsa has a sacred obligation to protect them.” The OCYP carries out this obligation by addressing allegations of sexual abuse against minors, facilitating VIRTUS Online training, and executing the Annual Safe Environment Audit.
The OCYP is happy to serve the parishes, schools, and other Catholic entities of the Diocese by helping to ensure the safest possible environment for children and vulnerable adults. As Bishop Konderla reminds us, “Each person who undergoes the safe environment training betters the entire community as each person becomes a valued ally in the effort to protect the most vulnerable among us.” In this spirit, the OCYP and Bishop Konderla thank everyone in the Diocese of Tulsa for all the work you do to protect our children, youth, and vulnerable adults.
